LOCAL BUSINESSES AND COMMUNITY SHOW THEIR SUPPORT FOR NEW CENTRE FOR DISABLED CHILDREN

North Lancashire based, multi award-winning disabled children’s charity, Unique Kidz and Co’s dream for a new purpose built centre of excellence is on the way to becoming a reality with the building now taking shape at Lancaster Leisure Park.  But the charity urgently  needs to raise £75,000 before April next year so that it can equip the centre with the essential equipment it needs to open.

On Monday 21st October Unique Kidz and Co launched its ‘Kit it out for the Kidz’ campaign.  The event was attended by representatives from local businesses and the local community as well as the charity’s staff, parents, children, volunteers and supporters.  It was an opportunity to find out more about the new centre and how to support the campaign.

Unique Kidz and Co was founded in 2009 by Jane Halpin, from Bolton le Sands and Denise Armer from Warton; both are parents with disabled children.  The charity has grown rapidly and now supports over 140 children in the area as one of very few providers of specialist holiday and after school childcare for disabled children in North Lancashire and South Cumbria.

Jane Halpin, Co-Founder says, “We we cannot open without essential equipment for the building and the children we provide services for after school and in the holidays.  Top of our list are mobile hoists and changing tables, children’s chairs and tables, cupboards, a cooker, a fridge and indoor and outdoor play equipment.  The cost to do this is £75,000 and we need to have all this equipment installed before April next year if we are to open when the building is finished. We really need businesses and local people to help us in any way they can, whether this is through getting involved in fundraising for us, sponsoring or donating a piece of equipment, or providing services free of charge or at cost, all of this will help us reach our target.”

Denise Halpin, Co- Founder says, “By supporting our ‘Kit it out for the Kidz’ campaign you will be helping us support more disabled children and their families, giving the children an opportunity to socialise and play after school and in the holidays, and their parents an opportunity to pursue work and training opportunities, or even have a much needed break.  With the support of local businesses and the community, we can make a big difference to the lives of many more local disabled children and their families.”
